Hello lovely readers, this week I am trying my best to complete my books from.last week as well as complete some newbies. The issue with selecting specific books to read for the week is that I’m such an emotional reader that there are times I just don’t want to finish a book I’ve already started.

Weekly Wrap-Up

This past week I was only able to complete 1 of 3 books and I wish I could present more to you all, but here you go.

Title: The Devil in Disguise
By: Cynthia Eden

Synopsis:
Don’t make the devil angry…

Luke Thorne loves having one hell of a good time. As the ruler of every dark creature to walk the earth, he certainly has more than a bit of a bad side. He lives for danger and isn’t the type to lose his heart—mostly because he doesn’t have one. Then she walks into his life.

Mina James is seduction in the flesh, a perfect temptation that the devil himself couldn’t pass up. Too late, Luke realizes he’s let a real siren into his life, a woman who is bent on using his dark powers to free herself from hidden enemies. Since Luke isn’t the type of man to be used, he should walk away from her, but…something about Mina draws him close.

Soon he’s realizing that she isn’t who she appears to be. Not dark and cold, but burning red hot. Mina is a woman fighting for her life—and the Lord of the Dark suddenly finds himself in an unlikely role…hero. Luke isn’t going to let her enemies destroy Mina. He will fight heaven and hell to keep her. But in the end, the secrets they both carry may just rip apart a love that should never have been…

There are Bad Things in the world…very, very bad. Are you ready for them?

Review:

Abby, an intelligent business woman that can’t seem to find satisfaction in any of past jobs. Abby appears to be a wanderer, not staying at any job for longer than 6 months, she finds that work becomes boring and no challenging enough. While Abby is on her quest to find a job that will test her skills, and hold her attention to longer than a 6 month period of time, Daniel the CEO of his late fathers company is in need of a new higher.

Daniel. While Daniel is made out to be this playboy billionaire who doesn’t care about females, it turns out (surprise, surprise) that he is actually very loving and caring. Daniel has set out to prove himself to Abby that he isn’t what the tabloids paint him to be.

The storyline itself was captivating, I did enjoy where the story was going and then of course, a cliffhanger. Not that the cliffhanger itself was that much of a shock, but where the cliffhanger took place was very blah. I found the story to be very repetitive, we know Abby has a history what that history is, we don’t find out in this first book of three. We also know that Abby has believed every word from the tabloids although she says she doesn’t, she immediately judges Daniel on what others have had to say. There were many eyeroll moments for me while Abby continued the battle of being an adult and handling the situation or letting others make her decisions for her.

I’ve realized that I want to see wh ed re this relationship takes Daniel and Abby, hopefully the two of them can become a power couple and run the business together.

Let me know how you feel about the thought of judging someone based on what the internet says. Do you judge other based on the tabloids, or are you more of a judge of character?

Well until next time, be sure to Read THS.

Review:

Celeste and Reagan, an odd couple to say the least. Reagan is our Fae and Celeste is our human, well sort of human but not really. Celeste is a dragon human hybrid shifter, a mouthful I know, although she isn’t aware of her abilities. Celeste has recently graduated college when she is bombarded by this handsome fae, that just so happens to kidnap her, yikes!

Reagan, one of the Scorched Elites, a sort of seal 6 team for the fae, is given a prophecy to locate a human dragon hybrid and bring her to the king. Sounds like a simple in and out task for the top-notched Scorched Elite, right…wrong! Reagan shows up to collect the human at hand when nature itself plays a cruel joke on the assassin and he is shown his fated mate.

This storyline is an instant love story, with all the fated mates’ talk, I only wish there were a little more passion. Everything kind of fell flat for me, but I honestly think its a personal issue. The story had no major structural problems and the grammar was fine.

One other let down for me was the ending, I was hoping for a different turnout, but what I got was a blah sort of let down feeling.

Let me know what you think about this one, I have decided to continue the series so I will let you all know how I feel about the next book.

Rise of a Luna

Rise of Luna

Rise of a Luna by Irtania Adrien

Release Date: February 2019

Genre: Shifter Romance

Purchase Links: Amazon

Ratings:

2 gold stars

Summary:

This is the sequel to His Mate and His Mistress.

In this story, we get an insight on why Adelina is being blamed by her sisters Wilma and Wanda and and her ex best friend Clarissa.

Adelina also learns what it means to be a Luna, a fighter, and to take chances, to open up, as well as make difficult decisions.

This story is filled with redemption, forgiveness, love, and tears.

Its an emotional rollercoaster you don’t want to miss.

~Goodreads~

Review:

After completing the first book of this duology, I wanted to see how the story would end. Similar to His Mate and His Mistress, the grammar issues continued throughout. The grammar being nothing but irritating background noise is not the reason behind the two-star score.

Adelina and Demitrey’s relationship is brought to an end, and I was not thrilled. Although the author tries their best to explain the reasoning behind Demitrey treating his one and only mate the way he had, due to his upbringing, that did not excuse the physical and mental abuse Adelina had to endure. If anything, I was hoping that the outcome would have been a little different, maybe with Adelina saying no and choosing herself over him or perhaps giving the relationship much more time. Although I have no experience in this type of incident, I don’t understand how Adelina could forgive Demitrey for all that he did, granted she did have her own inner battles.

The storyline in this book itself kept me confused, and at times the actions were very eye-roll worthy. There were so many twists and turns, and at every corner, the twists came from there was always one person responsible for the other characters’ reactions, Adelina. After some time, it became very repetitive that every bad guy was after Adelina, looking to kill her because she was who she was, or they wanted to keep her for themselves.

Due to so many unanswered questions in book one, I had to continue the story. I admit that I did get the answers, but the ending left an okay taste in my mouth.

I did initially find this book on the Dreame reading app, and after research, I saw the book was initially on Wattpad. I will say that I am glad the author was able to bring their work to life and offer it up to the reading community, I just wish the author would take another look at the duology and make the necessary adjustments.

So, what do you think? Would you give this story a shot, or does the idea of Demitrey and Adelina’s relationship seem like too much? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, be sure to Read THS!

Summary:

It was immediate for Roman. In three thousand years, he’d never lost control of his emotions, or his heart. But the moment he laid eyes on Evelynne Farrow, he knew she was the woman who haunted his dreams. And everything changed.

Everything.

Evie Farrow has always loved a good vampire romance. In fact, she makes a living writing them. While sitting in a coffee shop and working on her next mega-hot book, Evie is approached by a tall, dark, and handsome man who could have been pulled directly from one of her novels.

Unbeknownst to her, Roman D’Angelo is exactly what he appears to be – a vampire, and not just any vampire, but the king of vampires.

Unfortunately, while Roman is both ancient and invulnerable, Evie is flesh and blood. Just as Roman decides that he and Evie have a date with destiny, for reasons of their own, an ancient god and a homicidal vampire take an equally strong interest in her. To make things more complicated, there’s something very special about Evie. Something not quite human.

Can Roman fight off the incredible forces that would have Evie as their own long enough to win her heart, or will destiny betray him, and destroy everything he has ever dreamed of?

“Lalura had told him about her vision. Thirteen kings on a chess board – and thirteen queens….”

~Goodreads~

Review:

I wanted to love this book so much.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that the book was horrible, I enjoyed the storyline. I only wish Evie and Roman’s relationship would’ve had more time to flourish. I still enjoyed the Vampire King claiming his Queen, and seeing that he had to go through some struggles to get her back. Oh, and the power that Evie has is refreshing; in many ways, she is more potent than Roman, who doesn’t love a strong woman?

Call me a sucker, but I love it when a vampire is written with the primal mate senses. Roman’s instinctual draw to Evie made the book worthwhile. There is a point in which Evie becomes Romans Queen, and I’m all for us ladies being Queens, but it was never explained how or why.

Last but not least, this first book was a lot of information. I understand the need for the preparation of the following books, but at one point, I forgot what book I was reading due to the information being thrown at me. This information dump may be needed for the rest of the series, but I had to reread some parts just to figure out what was going on and why.

Rating:

Summary:

I’m a survivor. All of us who were abducted as children from earth are…or at least those of us who are still alive.

When my best friend’s ship crashes into a prehistoric jungle planet, I do what I do best: I survive. And I protect and train the only other survivor from the crash—young half-dragon, half-human child.

For five years, we’ve hunted gigantic beasts and scavenged man-eating plants. Then, an imperial ship crashes, and we’re no longer alone.

This dragon prince warrior is used to women falling at his feet. With a body like that, I can’t blame them, but I have more important things on my mind than getting it on with a huge, muscular, alpha alien. If he thinks there’s going to be anything between us other than a shaky truce until we escape this lethal planet, he’s got another thing coming.

I’ve never worn a collar. I refuse to be any royal dragon’s slave, and I’d rather die than be one of their “mates.” I’m fighting for my freedom, nothing else.

But when a slaver ship crashes, we’re no longer just fighting for our lives. It will take all my strength and guile to fend them off and protect the little girl I’ve come to love as if she were my own daughter.

The dragon prince has sworn to help, but his power comes with a price. He doesn’t want a truce.

He wants me.

~Goodreads~

Review:

Where to begin?

Kara was interesting, her being the human with a halfling as a “daughter” made her character more round. I enjoyed reading about Kara’s past and watching her grow to love Kalador.

Kalador has a very interesting background, I really would like to see where his family tree takes us. Seeing as we were able to watch Kalador’s sister slowly accept his decision, and learn to care for Kara and the halfling as well made his half of the story that much more enjoyable.

Storyline

This book was nothing short of interesting. Dragons, royalty, secret royalty, lust, love, hate all wrapped into one book. I enjoyed the simplicity of the story, it made it very easy to follow along with and a really good book to get you out of any reading slump. There were many parts where Kalador and Kara had sexy moments, but I don’t feel it took anything away from the book. We do learn about little details such as, dragon eggs, Kara’s bloodline and so forth that we don’t receive questions for and that was a little disappointing. The end of the book left me in a weird place, I think it could’ve been wrapped up a little better. Other parts that left me lacking, Kalador’s family being introduced to Kara, I really wanted to see the way that would play out, but alas we did not get that ending.

Overall the storyline was good, there were things missing but those things did not decrease my scoring. I don’t mind reading other stories from the Author, I’m interested in seeing what else she comes up with for this Drajon group.

Review:

So, here we go.

I read this book through the Dreama app, where you use coins to continue reading a story. (This is not an advertisement, I was suckered in via Facebook.)

Warning, because I read this book on the dreame app, I may have a later version before any corrections were made, hopefully.

The overall rating is due to the grammatical errors found throughout the book, every page, to be exact. I really do think that the author should go back over everything and read it out loud, or at least request readers that would look for grammatical errors, I would honestly do it for free. The grammatical errors really get in the way of the plot, mixing up some characters in places, and not having the appropriate words becomes very frustrating. So the overall 2/5 star ratings will stand until the book has been edited.

The Storyline

The overall storyline was acceptable. I did continue reading since I wanted to know how the story would turn out. Fair warning, there is a massive cliffhanger at the end of the Grand Cayon sized cliffhanger.

Adelina has so much growing to do when we first meet her, and throughout the story, she slowly, in a snail-like fashion, learns that she does not deserve the treatment she is receiving from her “mate” Demitrey (horrible guy). Adelina appears to be very mature at times, then at others, she seems childlike, complaining about her circumstances rather than fighting to get herself out.

Demitrey has his own demons that he needs to conquer, and I understand that at times, we have shitty upbringings, but what he does to his mate is not called for. I believe he could’ve simply told her he didn’t want her, had her agree and be stalkerish from afar until all problems were solved. We do have chapters reading from Demitrey’s viewpoint. In the beginning, I was bewildered, because he did seem like a complete asshole, of course, the author tried to explain his behavior, but his actions spoke louder than words, sorry no sorry.

Honestly, the entire time Adelina is having her inner turmoil about this guy really pissed me off. I don’t care if he was her mate, being treated like shit because of safety measures is never okay.

Well, as said before, the grammatical errors brought this book down, and Demitrey didn’t help the scoring what-so-ever. I know that the last part is purely due to my feelings, but hey, it is a review.

Summary:

She intentionally abducted him because of his skills as a warrior, but when the chance arose, he stole her for revenge.

Aylia is on a quest to get pregnant, and in the time-honored tradition of her people, she must kidnap a suitable male for the task. Seducing the reluctant warrior is harder than she expected, especially when her body turns traitor and melts at his touch. When he flips the situation around and takes her prisoner, he doesn’t just steal her body, he also takes her heart…and she might just have to kill him to get it back.

Being the scourge of the galaxy comes with consequences, like women wanting his body, but Jaro’s never had someone kidnap him for his seed. Fighting the female’s allure, the captive becomes the captor, and he learns that not all battles are fought using fists and knives.

Through the vastness of space, brothels, and unmentionable places in between, can this stubborn pair overlook their pride and past to come together?

Warning: This is a science fiction erotic romance, heavy on the romance with a humorous overtone. It contains explicit adult situations that some readers may find offensive. Reader discretion is advised.

~Amazon~

Review:

Interesting take on an intentional abduction. Initially reading the title, I thought the female would be the one who was abducted, but after the first chapter, we see that Aylia is our abductee. Aylia has set out on her journey to find a donor, one that is hopefully willing to impregnate her, so that she may return to her people. Aylia is looking for the best of the best, the strongest male so that she may create a strong female. When Aylia comes across Jaro, she then decides that he is the male she needs.

Jaro, a strong strapping male, finds himself captured by Aylia, a human that was rescued by the Zonian species. In the Zonian species, the women are the successors, they hunt down males and have intercourse to repopulate their world.

This story is actually amusing. The idea of a petite human taking down a strong alien to use his body for her own personal gains, score one for the women! I actually enjoyed reading this one, the push and pull between Aylia and Jaro was cool to look at. Aylia did not disappoint, she was strong-willed, tough, fierce, but vulnerable at the same time. The two of them did become repetitive at one point, both mentioning how they were going to kill one another and or punish each other.

All in all, I enjoyed the story, I may continue the series, we’ll see.

~Goodreads~

Review:

Alex and Gemma. I am not sure where I want to start this review. I guess I would first like to say that I am in love with these two. Gemma has had a rough life, and it’s great to see a woman not allow her past to ruin her future. Did Gemma have moments of self-doubt, yes, but don’t we all? Gemma was my beacon of hope in this story, I enjoyed seeing the transformation Alex took with his own issues, but Gemma was the star of this story. It is difficult for me not to love a strong-willed woman who doesn’t allow anything, even herself, to stand in the way of what she wants and needs in her life. For that, I have to applaud Gemma for being everything I see myself as, even though we have completely different backgrounds.

Now, on to Alex, our Alex. He is a heartthrob. Masculine, intelligent, hardworking and he loves cooking so much so that he owns his own restaurant? Yes, please! Although Alex is Gemma’s night in shining armor, I always love seeing a man in a vulnerable state where they put their emotions on the line and fight for what and who they love. I would have loved to see a little more of Alex’s history with his ex-wife. I also understand why we didn’t get as much information, it would have maybe left the story lopsided, with only the knowledge or flashbacks of Alex and Sam and little of Gemma and her ex-husband (he who shall not be named).

Some may say the story moved a little quickly, but as adults, we know when we’ve found someone we didn’t even know we were looking for. The pace was good, simple and not next day romance, but something that did build over time. This relationship moved like any other, and I felt as though I was experiencing every emotion with them.

I would love to see where these two end up later down the line. I have an issue with letting go of a storyline when I have fallen so deeply in love with the characters. Moni Boyce was able to capture the humanity in each character written and I am so happy I decided to pick this book out of the thousands in my Kindle library. Moni Boyce has gained a new follower and reader.

Review:

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was initially captivated by the title and book cover. I am giving this book three stars. There are grammatical errors that need to be checked, and some editing and revision to make the necessary corrections to bring this book at least a star higher. This storyline is a slow burner, but you must know **spoiler** that Hayley is attracted to two brothers, both of the attractions are sexual in an instance.

I found the storyline to be interesting, there is a different outlook on the history of Lucifer and God, and I enjoyed the take on things. What I did not like had anything to do with the way the book was written but, is an overall pet peeve of mine: the love triangle, or sexual tensioned triangle. I find the entire exchange eye-roll worthy, mainly because Hayley is in hell for heavens sakes, sex would be the last thing on my mind.

Hayley gets so caught up in the sexy feels that she has for Lucifer and Gabriel that she doesn’t continuously raise questions or concerns about her best friend, Adam. He disappears for most of the book, randomly popping up out of nowhere. I would have liked to see Adam in her life more since he was supposed to be her best friend. You would wonder and worry about your best friend, especially if one of the siblings is treating you like crap and beating you.

Lastly, Hayley says in the beginning how she wants to escape Jane and the criminal life she is living to be with her sister. Hayley wants to reunite with her at least in time for her sister’s wedding. While Hayley is in heaven, the thought of her sister hardly crosses her mind. This issue is one of the biggest issues I had with the story besides Hayley not picking a guy.

Overall not bad, but I am not sure if I will be reading the next book.

Summary:

This is the world of the forbidden. This is the embrace of Enthrall.

Mia Lauren is a single, twenty-one-year old working in a West Hollywood art store who dreams of one day becoming a fashion designer. When an unexpected offer arises to work at Enthrall, L.A.’s premier fetish club for the wealthy, Mia accepts. It’s a salary beyond her wildest imagination.

Mia becomes the secretary to the club’s assistant director, blond and broody Richard Booth. Richard is not only one of L.A.’s most beautiful and wealthiest men, he is also the club’s senior dominant. Mia is both drawn and terrified when he reveals flashes of his white-hot passion, threatening an unbound pleasure like no other. She knows her attraction may be her undoing, but the spellbinding feelings render her powerless to resist his advances.

What Mia cannot know is that Enthrall’s dashing founder and director thirty-year-old Cameron Cole, who is also the club’s psychiatrist, has lured Mia to save his best friend and patient Richard from his obsession with thrill seeking. Cameron masterfully sets up sexy scenarios to ensure the collision of Richard and Mia, hoping that love will save him.

However, despite Cameron’s noble intentions, he also finds himself enticed by Mia’s haunting innocence. Passion and pleasure stir, forming a dangerous love triangle. This is the world of the forbidden. This is the embrace of Enthrall.

Review:

Cute storyline for a romance, a little fast paced but I am a sucker for instant romances when you know you know. When it comes to the BDSM portion of the storyline, I would have to say that this book was lacking in that section. There just wasn’t enough steam for me to appreciate the BDSM portions of the storyline.

Mia, poor naive Mia. Mia is written as a young woman in her early 20s that’s a virgin (because apparently, men enjoy taking a woman’s virginity) and it seems as though her being a virgin makes her unintelligent. What bothered me about Mia’s character is that she seemed so one dimensional. Her role didn’t pull me in or make me feel that I had to continue reading the book. As for her best friend, Tara, I understand what the author was trying to convey. Tara was supposed to be this outgoing, encouraging friend that wants to see her friend happy, but I felt that some of the actions Tara took only made her seem like she had an ulterior motive by sending Mia into the bosses office when she knew Mia wasn’t experienced with what she might come in contact with. That one incident left a bad taste in my mouth and just had me questioning a lot of the events taking place.

Richard was just as one dimensional as Mia. Although he’s had experience in the BDSM world, I still didn’t get the heat from their rendezvous, yes Mia is a virgin, but she was also willing to try and learn some things. I think I wanted a little more of a lesson plan to properly introduce Mia into the BDSM world.  Richard also has issues of his own, I felt that his problems were barely touched upon and nothing was ever resolved, he just seemed to move on.

I genuinely wish my heart would have loved this story as much as I wanted to, but this book was hard for me to get through.

Well gang, if you’ve read any of the Enthrall series by Vanessa Fewings let me know. Also, what are your thoughts on BDSM type books?
