Getting to Know Me Wednesdays

Hey there THS readers,

This week I thought I would get a little more personal than some of my other Wednesday peaks into my life. In lu of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share my breast cancer journey with you guys.

img_44182801945055933173754.jpg

I know this post may give off a little melancholy feel, but I promise you guys I am fine.

I first discovered a lump in my left breast at the age of 23, I was not initially alarmed due to family history, and the possibilities of being diagnosed was always a factor. I went to the doctor not long after I found the lump and was informed that in fact, it was cancerous. Before making any decisions about the route I would take, I made sure to get a second opinion at Md Anderson. Living in Houston does have its benefits, so why not take advantage of them right? Anywho, I enjoyed my consultation with my team at Md Anderson, there was a full plan laid out showing me the steps I could take, almost like a road map. Everything was always available to me at any point in time, and anytime I asked questions or wanted to choose a different route the option was available, I  really enjoyed the overall environment of my team and the hospital itself, I felt comfortable with going on a weekly/daily basis and was always greeted with a smile. My cancer walk consisted of chemo, radiation, surgery and the recovery periods, through this process I did not allow for the possibility of negativity to cross my mind, instead, I kept positive thoughts and surrounded myself with my loving family and friends. Although I know everyone has there own journies, and they deal with things differently I can say that my team was supportive in whatever decisions I made, they informed me of every risk, gave me packets and websites to look into for financial aid, as well as groups to talk to when I made decisions to take the steps into my breast cancer journey. I have been in remission for over a year now, and I still speak and see my team all the time. I can easily say that I was blessed with a fantastic group of people to help educate me about the process, and regularly check on me during my procedures, as well as while I’m in remission. Below, I will include some pictures, cancer is never an easy subject to discuss, but for a lot of people, it’s necessary this was just my reflection on a part of my life.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope you got a more in-depth look into my life. Until next time readers, be sure to Read THS!

New Read Mondays

Well hello, there fellow readers!

It is the start of a new week, which means I’m starting new books and hoping to actually finish them this week. Although these books aren’t long, I am an emotional reader so having a dedicated list for a time period is difficult for me to stick too so hopefully it will work out for the beginning of this week.

Cutting Edge

Cutting Edge by CD Reiss

A sexy and intense prequel to the Edge Series.

There’s a war going on.

I need to pay attention to my job, not the surgeon. Not his sky-blue eyes or the confidence in his hands. Not the smile under his mask or the way it fits on his jaw.

And doctor or not, gorgeous or not, only a complete jerk would drop his pants in front of me just as a show of dominance.

But he’s a force of nature, and I don’t think I can resist him much longer.

It’s not until I’m the casualty and he’s standing over me that I realize I love him.

I want to tell him before I go under. Just a few words before we’re separated.

But it might be too late.

Well until next time my book lovers.

Paris Bound Review

Paris Bound

Paris Bound by Summer Brooks

I met him in the city of love.
He whooshed by with his perfect little daughter.
I turned around.
And it took him a minute to steal my heart.
He towered over me with his flawlessly sculpted face.
Rich, powerful, and a doting father.
My nasty luck with men told me that he was too good to be true.
I wanted to turn back around.
To run for my life.
But guess what?
I stayed and shook his hand instead.
His mahogany eyes met mine.
Everything went from wrong to right.
Until it all spiraled out of control…
Shane Rodman actually wasn’t too good to be true.
He was the devil with a hidden agenda.
I fell in love with the enemy.
I crossed that line.
But like they say, the line between love and hate is a thin one.

No cheating and a guaranteed HEA!

Review

*Spoilers*

Paris Bound is a short and sweet story where two people are brought together by a sweet headstrong 13-year-old, Shane and Kristina. Shane, a business mogul, and Kristina a fashion designer appearing at her first show in Paris are quickly swept up with one another, although they have different viewpoints on the fashion industry. With this story being so short, it was easy to get through, but it was a little difficult to become invested in the characters with so much going on in such a short time. I did like the chemistry between Shane and Kristina, but falling in love in a total of about 3 days is a stretch for me. I did enjoy the main concept of the story, with Shane being a single dad and wanting to protect his daughter, and by showing Kristina’s hard work and dedication to something she loved, was an overall nice set-up.

This was the first story I have read by the author, I may read her next book to see how things stack up.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Day 24 of Writing Challenge

Prompt: The clock hits 11:11, make a wish.

Blurb: I stare at the clock waiting for the digital red numbers to show 11:11. You may not believe in making wishes and asking the universe to do you a solid, but I do. When the numbers change, I close my eyes and wish like I had never before. This wish was full of hope and almost begging, I needed this wish to come to fruition. My grandmothers’ health has steadily been declining, and I didn’t know what else to do.

“I wish for the health of my grandmother to be reversed, I wish for her to remain on this earth with me, please give her more time, give us more time we aren’t ready.”

I take a deep breath trying to calm myself before I started crying, again. I will do everything in my power to make sure she is well taken care of, “I promise to do all that I can,” I say towards the ceiling.

New Reads Monday!

Happy Monday Readers,

Welcome to another new read Monday, where I post my latest reads.

Allien Warrior

Alien Warrior by Sadie Carter

Stuck on a military outpost in the middle of nowhere, Zoey had been praying for something to relieve her boredom.
She never dreamed that relief would come in the form of a seven-foot tall, sexy alien. One who claimed she belonged to him.
Delusional.
Except, there was something pulling her to him… a deep, hot attraction she couldn’t deny.
Dexanon Xa’a always thought his mate would be a sweet, obedient female. Instead, the Gods landed him with a maddening, outspoken, outrageous female who didn’t comprehend the honor that had been bestowed on her.
Dex might have a rockin’ body, but his ideas about women needed a total overhaul.
And she was just the woman to do it.

So far so good. As of late I have been reading a lot of fantasy books, but that’s not completely true as fantasy is always a constant read for me. I do love the way this world is set up, with earth existing and the knowledge of other aliens out in the galaxies it makes for a nice paced read with interesting view points.

Day 22 Writing Challenge

Prompt: You receive a special delivery, a bouquet of roses. Attached is a card, in neat cursive it reads ” I love you, I always have, and I always will no matter our circumstances.”

Blurb:

It’s Saturday morning, and I have music playing throughout the house. It has been raining off and on all morning, so indoors is the best place to be, plus I haven’t done a spring cleaning in so long that it’s now the end of summer. While I’m sweeping I hear a knock at my door. Without turning the music down and walk over and peep through the peephole to see who it may be, I’m not expecting anyone and I no one wants to be out in this downpour.

Looking through I see nothing but beautiful red and white roses filling my view. I open the door and to find a florist with a huge glass bouquet of roses in her arms, and it seems to be a little heavy as the young lady is starting shake.

“Hi, I think you may have the wrong house, I didn’t order any flowers.”

“If this, 2946 Rosewood Dr?”

“Well, yes.”

“And are you Ruby Clark?”

“Yes, I’m sorry come in, you can set them on the table right over there, I wasn’t expecting anything I was just wanted to be sure you had the right place.”

” That’s alright, I wish my boyfriend would surprise me with flowers on such a gloomy day as this, you’re one very lucky woman.” I pause in mid-stride as she rambles on about my “boyfriend” who decided to surprise me with flowers. I thought he was finally letting me have my space, he never knows when to give up. Kace and I met a little over a year ago, I was automatically head over heels for him, and he seemed to be as well. Then these strange things kept happening, he never wanted to go out for during the day, like he was ashamed of me or something. We never stayed at his place, or spent time there he was always over here, or we were just out. After months of no communication, he sends me flowers? Why?

“Oh, yeah he likes to randomly do things,” I say as I grab the clipboard she has and sign on the marked line. “Thanks, I’m sorry you had to get out in this rain I wish he hadn’t done that no one needs to be out in this.” That’s another thing, he would do little things that made it seem like he had no feelings towards other people, it was almost as if he could use anyone and get away with it.

“It’s no biggie, I try to stay as busy as possible on days like this. No one really buys flowers when it is pouring rain outside, although it would be smarter.” She grabs the clipboard and turns to leave out. ” I hope you enjoy your day, and I hope you love the flowers, not every girl gets a guy like you.” She walks out the door after her last statement.

“Yeah, lucky me,” I say to the now empty house. I turn and stare at the flowers, they are beautiful, and they do make the room look a little brighter. I walk over to the vase and lean down to smell one of the white roses and can’t help the smile that spreads across my face. Roses are so symbolic, and yet I don’t understand why he would randomly send them to me, he’s the one that said we wouldn’t work out, he’s the reason we aren’t together. I open my eyes after I got lost in the scent of the flowers, and see I little white envelope sticking out. Snatching the envelope out I quickly yank out the card to read what message he’s scrawled out.

I love you, I always have, and I always will no matter our circumstances.

P.S. I’m sorry, but this is the way it must be.

Kace

“I was just beginning to move on with my life, why Kace, why pop back up and ruin me all over again?”

New Reads Monday!

Happy Monday readers, what book have you decided to pick up this week?

Naughty Boss by Whitney G.

Naughty Boss

Subject: My Boss.

Have I already told you that I hate my boss today?

Sexy as hell or not, this pompous, arrogant, ASSHOLE asked me to pick up his dry cleaning the second I walked through the door. Then he told me that I needed to take his Jaguar to a car wash that was ten miles outside of the city, but only after I needed to stand in a never-ending line to buy some type of limited, hundred-dollar watch.

I honestly can’t wait to see the look on his face two months from now when I tell him that I’m quitting his company and that he can kiss my ass. KISS. MY. ASS.

All those former fantasies about him kissing me with his “mouth of perfection” or bending me over my desk and filling me with his cock are long over. OVER.

Your bestie,
Mya

PS–Please tell me your day is going better than mine…

Subject: Re: My Boss.

No, you haven’t already told me that you hate your boss today, but seeing as though you’ve sent me this email directly, I know now…

Yes, I did ask you to pick up my dry cleaning the second you arrived to work to day. (Where is it?) And I did tell you to take my Jaguar to the car wash and pick up my thousand-dollar watch. (Thank you for taking five hours to do something that could be accomplished in two.)

You don’t have to wait two months from now to see the look on my face when you tell me you’re quitting. I’m standing outside your office at this very moment. ( Open the door. )

No comment on your “fantasies,” although I highly doubt they’re “long over.”

Your boss,
Michael

PS–Yes. My day is definitely going far better than yours…

A steamy, office-romance novella from New York Times bestselling author, Whitney G.

New Reads Monday!

Welcome back readers, once again we are starting our week with a new read.

The Billionaire’s Obsession by J.S. Scott

The Billionaires Obsession

This complete collection of The Billionaire’s Obsession includes: Mine For Tonight, Mine For Now, Mine Forever, Mine Completely

Down-on-her-luck nursing student and full-time waitress Kara Foster gets a massive blow to her already desperate financial situation that will surely find her living on the streets. Needing nothing less than a miracle to save her, Kara gets rescue from an unknown, unlikely, and overwhelming source. Billionaire Simon Hudson makes her an offer that is impossible to refuse, but terrifying to accept from a man that she’s never met. Will the handsome, alpha billionaire really be a solution to her problems? Or will he end up being a major complication and a danger to her emotional sanity?

Reclusive billionaire Simon Hudson would rather be behind a computer creating computer games than rubbing elbows with the elite and he knows exactly what he wants…until he meets Kara Foster. Something about Kara touches Simon in ways he’s never experienced and definitely doesn’t like. For over a year, Simon watches over Kara, but stubbornly refuses to admit his desire to possess her, not even to himself. But when she ends up in a situation that could very well be her destruction, Simon steps up to help her, not realizing that in saving Kara, he might very well be salvaging his own soul.

This is an erotic romance and is not intended for YA listeners. It contains graphic language, explicit sex, and other subjects not appropriate for YA listeners.

~Goodreads Summary~

Obsession is a nice way to put it. Simon is not only obsessed but a little stalkerish, we’ll see how far his obsessive actions get him before they interfere with this new “relationship.”  Was that a bit of spoiler-y, sorry I’m just a little skeptical.

Day 7 of my Writing Challenge

Prompt:  You are a band teacher watching over your students at the quarterly fundraising car wash.

Blurb:

Glancing at my watch, I realize it has only been 3hrs since the car wash began. Luckily there are only 3 more hours to go. Sure this is for a good cause, we need the money to fund some of our band trips and the school district isn’t going to pay for us.

This Texas heat is going to kill someone. Walking back out of the shade of the pavilion I wave the next car forward.

“Hi, did you have a pre-purchased car was a ticket, or did you want to make a $5 donation?”

“I don’t have anything smaller than a $100, do you have change?”

“I have to catch myself from staring and the handsome man, surely he doesn’t believe a High School band car wash has hundreds of dollars in the till to make adequate change for customers with $100.

Then, when a mysterious email asks Seckry to break into the headquarters of the Endrin Corporation and steal a container full of worms for a hefty sum of money, his anger resurfaces, and he can’t resist the revenge he promised himself.

Alone at night, Seckry creeps through the sewers whilst wondering what experiments Endrin might be doing on the worms, and emerges into the silent complex. Millions Review

Millions (Book 5)  by Pepper Winters

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Publishing Date:

E-book: 300 pages, Audiobook: 11h 4m

Rating: 5/5

Synopsis

Goodreads rating: 4.55 stars

“Tragedy, turmoil, and the ultimate sacrifice. It’s not a question of what I’m willing to sacrifice but who to deserve her…

Can love truly conquer all? Even when so many truths say no?

~Goodreads~

Pepper Winters has done it again. The fifth and final book of the pennies series has finished on a high note, and I must be honest with you guys it took me forever to read this book. I did not want to Pim and Elders journey to end. I tried my best to hold off and not finish the story and well, a chapter of my life.

Pepper Winters has become one of my favorite authors, she’s able to make you swoon, rip your heart out, bite your nails and sit with your jaw open all within the same chapter. That right there ladies and gentlemen takes skill. Now, let’s get down to it.

Pim has been kidnapped, after one of the best times of their lives, she is ripped away from Elder as soon as their lives are beginning. Whom do we have to blame for this? Q. I am telling you guys I was so mad when he decided to pop up and be the hero, he didn’t take out the time to really figure out what was happening, and then on top of all of that he wouldn’t listen, typical. If you can’t tell I hold a sore spot for Q in my heart, I never read Tears for Tess, so this was my first interaction with the characters and I have to say it all started off on a wrong foot.

Pim has finally grown into the woman she was meant to be, she is known to showcase her strength and abilities as well as voice her wants and needs and does just that when she is taken captive. Throughout the story, we are able to read from Pim and Elders perspectives, Pim doing all she can to get free, while Elder does all he can to get to her. Now, isn’t that what we really want? Someone to rescue us when it’s needed, think the world of us, who would also do whatever it took to get them back, talk about a heartthrob. This last book was the perfect ending to a not so perfect story, and I couldn’t think of any other way I’d have their story end.

Well readers, does this sound like a series you would be interested in? Let me know what you think, have you read anything from Pepper Winters, if so which book?
