30-Day Writing Challenge by Cydney

Hey there TH*S readers!

Hey TH*S readers, do you remember the writing challenge I was hosting, well here it is officially this time. I wanted to give you all this info before I actually kicked off my first ever 30-day writing challenge, which will start September 2018. I wanted to do this with you guys and share my way of creativity, hoping that it would come in handy one day. I have looked at many Pinterest boards, Blog Pages and google pictures of different writing prompts, but the result only gives you lists to follow along with on a daily basis. I wanted to bring you guys 30 days of writing prompts that could help you when you’re stuck in a hard place in your stories, or if you are just starting to journal.

Rules:

  • Write at least 250 words, mainly the opening paragraph. Of course, you can write more, but I like to keep things open and fresh for future references.
  • Add in an important detail, a favorite name, a favorite flower, something that you’ll always remember about that opening.
  • Starts September 1, 2108, ends September 30, 2018, but feel free to continue, take a break, or start over again at any time.
  • Take 5 minutes out of the day to let your imagination go wild. Five minutes may seem like the smallest amount of time in the world, but I have noticed that every little time gets me a step closer to finishing my story. And although I more than likely go over that five minute break time, I make sure to add something if only a couple of sentences because I am working towards my goal.
  • Share. Don’t be afraid to share where the prompt took you. I will try my best to attach my own blurb so that you all see that I am participating alongside with you all.

I hope that you all will join me on this prompt writing challenge of mine. Plus, the way I see it, the more open ideas available, the better off you’ll be when writing. If you ever need to pull from one of the prompts for ideas, a plot twist, or you want to take it and completely flip what you’ve already written and added it into your work, then you have a journal of ideas just waiting to be used. I will be re-posting, and reminding you guys about the challenge, so stay tuned.

Happy National Book Lovers Day!!

Happy National Book Lovers Day!

Of course, we don’t need a national day to talk about how much we love reading, or the newest books we’ve read, or even our continuously growing tbr lists. But, it is nice to see that reading is big enough to be recognized alongside other “national” holidays such as pancake day, hot dog day, boyfriend/girlfriend day and so on. So here’s to all of you readers out there, now…back to reading.

Until next time, Read THS!

Thousands Review

Thousands (Book 4 of Dollar Series) by Pepper Winters

Published: August 2017

E-Book, 300 pages

Stars: 5/5

“Love had been stolen from me for reasons entirely my fault. But then a miracle happened, and Pim gave me something I thought was lost forever. She gave me a love I’d earned. Love that ruined me. Love that made me hopelessly hers…”

Once upon a time, I didn’t think I’d ever be normal.
Now, I’m talking and trusting, and it’s all thanks to Elder.
He gave me my life back, and I gave him my heart, but love stories like ours are never simple.
I did something to protect him.
He did something to survive me.
We screwed up.
And now, it’s no longer just about us.
It’s about safety, sanctuary, and sin.

~Amazon~

The Pennies series happens to be one of my favorite series ever. I have seen my share of reviews about the disappointment readers felt from reading Thousands, but I don’t agree. I am so in love with Pim, and Elder the slow build and burn the inner torment they both have to face is so refreshing to me. This isn’t an every day, all of a sudden I can’t resist you love story, they are both struggling to overcome their issues not just for themselves but for each other.

“I knew he loved me before he knew.

He loved me.

I loved him.

I didn’t need anyone else to tell me.

I know.

I trust.

It’s true.

He loves me…

And that was the most incredible thing of all.”

My heart swelled and my eyes wouldn’t stop running, this is one of the moments I have been waiting for this entire series and I can’t wait to read the last book. I am honestly scared of reading the final book, I have invested so much time and emotions into this series that I don’t want it to be over.

Genre: Dark Romantic Mystery

Published: May 2017

E-book, Pages: 300

Stars: 5/5

“I’m done hurting her. She’s been hurt enough. It’s time I set her free…”

Once upon a time, I wished to go home and forget.
Now, I’m strong and ready to fight.
Seduced and claimed, Elder no longer just demands my voice, he commands me to be a thief like him.
I refuse.
But he offers me things I shouldn’t want, favours I should run from.
In return for his protection, I’m ordered to steal enough pennies and dollars to buy back my freedom.
Only, we both aren’t prepared for how he changes me, evolves me.
It’s my turn to learn about him.
It’s his wish to teach me how to be normal.
Until something goes wrong.
And our life together comes to an end.
Third Book in the USA Today Bestselling Romance, Dollar Series ~Amazon~

Picking up where we last left off, Pim and Elders relationship that’s not really a relationship, but should be a relationship is as rocky as ever. The struggle between the two of them helps keep the readers intrigued.

*Blurb*
“Where were you?”
“Where were you!”
“Where. Were. You?!”
And all I could do was sit there with my body inside hers, cold and ruined.
Answerless.
Powerless.
Destoryed.
~Pepper Winters~

Pim, although not fully healed mentally or physically has shown growth. Dollars left us in a shaky place, we were all asking ourselves “Will Pim survive this, is this some sort of betrayal?” Throughout Hundreds Pim continues to show her growth, after such a traumatic and earth shattering ending to Dollars everything was surely set-up for a downward spiral. But, Pim shows just how much that last scene helped her grow and push forward with her life, not allowing her past to trap her any longer. As we’ve been shown time and time again Pim is a survivor, a fighter a survivor, stubborn, and strong. So strong that she finally realizes what she must do to save Elder. Pims strength is one for the books, the past 2 years of her life have been horrible, and yet during her healing process she tries to fix Elder. Phenomenal!

*Blurb*
“With fingers my fingers tight around the pen, I scrawled my old name, turned new name, turned known identity.
Yours forever, Tasmin.”

Elder Prest, strong, helpful, loving and stubborn. Of all the things Prest has been through, Pim I believe is the most difficult task he has ever given himself. With his pre-existing condition he almost can’t afford to help although he feels it is his responsibility. And yet Elder forces himself to do what he can to help her heal, because we all know he is nothing but a teddy bear that needs love. Elders attraction to Pim is almost magical, because he can see through all of the broken parts of her and see just how strong she already is, and how much stronger she will be.

The love that is brewing between the two of them is a beautiful scene to watch, seeing and being able to read from both perspectives and knowing what they’re both thinking and they’re inner struggles just makes me fall in love with them over and over again.

Dollars (Dollar Book 2) by Pepper Winter

E-book: 300 pages

Rating: 5 out of 5

Book two in the Dollar Series continues with our story of Pim and Elder. A story that we might have all seen coming, but excited for non the less. I love these two as a couple, even though they aren’t technically a couple. Winters always figures out how to tug on every emotional string you may have. At moments  you’re feeling the pain Pim has gone through, and the need to be in control of her life and then with Elder you are feeling the loss of those you loved, as well as the need to conquer and fix Pim.

The way everything is written continues to pull you into the book, and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you try to sort through the two characters feelings. You want one another to forget all that they have gone through, but you also see how they need their pasts to help them grow into better people. I am so in love with these two that I can not stop myself from continuing their story, and watching them grow as people. They have both truly captured my heart, and I am excited to bring you the remaining reviews of the series.

“There comes a point in life where determination supersedes circumstance. Where willpower wins over what should be done.

I’d lived in that point for two years.

…He made it worse. So, so much worse. But then he came back. He stole me. Just in time.” ~Pepper Winters~

If after that little spew you aren’t rushing to download the book, I have no clue what you’ve just read.

P.S. I started reading the series back in 2016, I have been on this journey with Winters for a long time, and I just now felt I was ready to write the reviews for you guys. I own the Kindle versions, as well as the Audiobooks version, and have read, re-read, listened, and re-listened to the entire series on countless occasions, and I fall in love every time. I am glad I have just now found the courage to tell you all about the wondrous tale of Pim and Elder.

Pennies Review

Pennies (Book #1 of the Dollar Series) by Pepper Winters

Published: July 2016 Genre: Romance/Mystery

E-book: 300 pages

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Amazon        Barnes & Noble       Kobo

Where do I begin? There are so many things I could say, but I refuse to spoil the book for you. Pepper Winters is known as the Queen of Darkness, every book I have read by her has taken me on a emotional roller coaster and still I continue to read.

Pennies is about a girl that is stolen, stolen from the life she knows and dragged to a world that is not at all pretty. She becomes a slave, a slave to a man that takes pleasure in doing the unthinkable. She suffers this ill fate for some time, at moments wishing things would just be over with, and yet she holds out until the day Elder Prest enters her life. Both Pim and Elder share similar qualities they are stubborn, strong, intelligent, and caring but the obstacle that keeps them apart are their issues. They are two broken souls with traumatizing pasts and a questioning future.

This first book is set-up perfectly, it is a show burner romance that is not at all romantic. While reading, the events that take place are so vivid that you believe you have lived through them yourself. The writing rakes you into the book where you can clearly see everything act out in front of your eyes. If you enjoy suspense, romance, action, and thrillers with a dark side I definitely recommend this read.

The Seduction Review

The Seduction by Roxy Sloane

Published: February 2015 Genre: Romance, Erotica

E-book, 187 pages

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Amazon                    Barnes & Noble                   Kobo                             Itunes

The Seducer, has made a life for himself doing what he does best…seducing. He takes in clients from all sorts of walks of life, some wanting to gain dirt on their competitor, and even those trying to get out of divorces. You could say that the Seducer does his own kind of private eye work. The Seducer is given a new job, Keely Fawes but unlike his other jobs this one takes a bit harder to crack than others. Keely Fawes, is a good girl, she goes to work, busts her ass, works overtime and does it all again the next day just to cover the bills. But when the Seducer comes along, there’ll be more on her mind than her normal busy schedule.

Hi, my name is Cydney and I am addicted to steamy romance books. Okay, now that I got that off of my chest lets begin. Vaughn, our Seducer is your book boyfriend dream come true,  he has a strong personality, he obviously has a nice body, and he says everything you didn’t think you wanted to hear. From the beginning chapters you are swept up in the sensual whispers Vaughn uses for Keely, and like every good girl Keely stays away, physically that is. The basis of the story is built on Keely and Vaughn’s relationship but there is background noise worth listening to. As the background continues to move forward, although Vaughn and Keely are at a stand still you are continuously drawn in by the sensual air of the two. Keely learns a lot about herself, and tries to learn more about Vaughn but with him using his ultimate super power, its difficult to get anywhere except to the bedroom. If you are looking for a hot, steamy number this is it, but fair warning this is a series, I know, I know I can’t stand them either…but I just can’t help myself.

One Shade of Gray Review

One Shade of Grey by Monica Corwin

Published: October 2017 Genre: Romance, Gothic Romance, Literature Fiction

E-book, 219 pages

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Amazon                              Barnes & Noble                                 Kobo

This book is based off of a tall telling of The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde, which was originally  in June of 1890 apart of the Philosophical Fiction genre. When the book was first published it brought on a lot of negativity as far as rumors on the character Dorian being of terrible immoral character as well as a bad influence and somewhat corrupting. Now, I personally have not read the original, but after doing some research I think I will take a chance and see what all of the fuss was about.

Back to the present, Monica Corwin, being a fan of the original telling wanted to put her own spin on the scandalous book, and bring into the new age. I personally found Dorian very difficult to not like. He automatically appeared as the good guy just wanting a chance with a woman, and how often does that not happen in real life? I enjoyed Dorian his mannerisms were a little old school, (which makes sense) but who doesn’t want to be treated respectfully and pampered? On to Sybil, I mean Izzy. Izzy sounded like an everyday working woman, out trying to accomplish things and not get blisters. Corwin wrote Izzy in a very relative manner, I could see myself responding to Dorian’s advances, and I could also agree with her actions and train of thought. The steam between Dorian and Izzy was palpable and I just couldn’t put my phone down, always a difficult thing to do when you’re at work.

Monica Corwin did a good job on this rendition, so much so I have added the original to my tbr list. I may be reading a couple more of Corwins’ standalone books, she may have just gained a new follower.

Bitten: The Bitten Series Review

Bitten (Book 0.5 The Bitten Series) by Lynn Best

Published: October 2017 Genre: Paranormal Romance

E-book, 51 pages.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

Amazon                   Barnes & Noble

Synopsis: Stephanie moves to Austin with her boyfriend where they are starting their lives together. But almost as soon as they get settled in a new city things begin to fall apart, this man that she moved across states with is not the same guy he was before. Now, Stephanie is sitting in a little coffee shop crying her eyes out over her lack of a relationship when she is approached by a handsome stranger, Francisco. Soon she catches herself being drawn to this handsome stranger only to find out he has issues of his own.

I thought the story was okay. I think I just had personal issues with the speed at which these two main characters fell into each others arms, but what can you expect from a 51 page book, right? I know this was just a glimpse to get me captivated by the story but it was just to fast for me. I personally would have liked to see Stephanie and Francisco build a little more on their sudden attraction, and maybe leave us with a huge cliffhanger. It might just be my thoughts, but I do love some suspense and maybe some moments of heart break, but ultimately I want to see the happy ending. I just believe this book wasn’t for me, but I think I will give the 1st book a shot to see if there is the anticipation, and angst that I was missing.

Beauty and the Beast: An Adult Fairytale Romance Review

Beauty and the Beast: An Adult Fairytale Romance by Vivienne Savage

Published: October 2016, Genre: Fairytales

Audiobook 7hrs 7min.

Amazon                       Barnes&Noble                             Google Books

As a fairytale retelling, I don’t think I need to fully go into a full back story. Beauty and the beast is primarily about learning to love and care for those not because of their looks, but because of who they are.

Princess Anastasia Rose has a journey ahead of her, although she has been promised the ability to attend university to further her studies, that promise is broken because of war. When a war breaks out between her kingdom and another she is set out to protect and save her kingdom, with this twist Anastasia is brought face to face with a dragon and not one but two Princes.

I loved this retelling of Beauty and the Beast, one of my favorite fairytales. I was happy to see that Anastasia was a strong heroin, one that did what she thought was needed to help her family. I liked seeing that it wasn’t just about her father that needed rescuing but the entire kingdom, she was educated, strong, but most of all caring and loving something I truly love about Belle. Now, I normally don’t lean towards dragon tales but, I did fall in love with Alistair. I enjoyed reading from his perspective, and knowing the inner struggles he was going through as the one dealing with the spell. Although I knew how this tale was going to end, somewhat, I was still found myself hoping that they would come together, but all turned out as it should, and I am glad I decided to give this one a try.
