Weekly Wrap-Up January 20th – 26th

Weekly wrap up time! So on my last update I was able to finish 2 books, this time around I finished 2 DC graphic novels, and will hopefully be catching up on the series soon.

Synopsis:

Suspected of murder, [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] find themselves on the run from the super-hospital called Sanctuary —with each thinking the other one is the real killer! It’s up to Batman to solve this heinous crime, but suspicion falls on him when Superman and Wonder Woman ponder just how much Sanctuary’s A.I. is telling them. Meanwhile, [REDACTED] tries to make a shady deal to hide from the Trinity, while [REDACTED] searches out an old friend to help him out of this mess—and only gets deeper in trouble.

Weekly Wrap-Up

The end of a decent reading week, I was able to get through 2 books, although the last book left me with mixed emotions I think I’m going to read the next book in the series.

Title: Chosen by the Vampire (Book 1)

By: Atlas Rose

Synopsis:

They’re sinful.

Beautiful.

Deadly.

More dangerous than the Wolves who hunt us in the woods.

Three Vampires rule our world.

We call them the Sinful.

And now I find myself in their clutches.

Abducted in the dead of night, I’m taken to a market in another town.

A market where eleven others like me are paraded in front of the Sinful and taken to a castle in the middle of the woods.

They want us to compete for their attention, to be selected for their bed.

Only I came with a secret of my own. They are the monsters I hate…the monsters who killed my family eleven long years go.

And now I want revenge.

Title: Chosen by the Vampire (Book 2)

By: Atlas Rose

Synopsis:

I’m a pawn in their deadly game.

A toy. A temptation.

They want the one mortal beside them on the thrones…and one in their beds.

Three Vampires played with us, they dress us up and parade us in front of unsuspecting victims.

Men who have come to this place under the guise of a masquerade ball to dance and find love.

Only that’s not why we’re here.

We’re to seduce those men, and obey the fanged monsters in the dark.

Sex is their power.

Lust their weapon of choice.

I need to become a beast like them to win…to survive…and to be chosen.

Mina James is seduction in the flesh, a perfect temptation that the devil himself couldn’t pass up. Too late, Luke realizes he’s let a real siren into his life, a woman who is bent on using his dark powers to free herself from hidden enemies. Since Luke isn’t the type of man to be used, he should walk away from her, but…something about Mina draws him close.

Soon he’s realizing that she isn’t who she appears to be. Not dark and cold, but burning red hot. Mina is a woman fighting for her life—and the Lord of the Dark suddenly finds himself in an unlikely role…hero. Luke isn’t going to let her enemies destroy Mina. Review:

Abby, an intelligent business woman that can’t seem to find satisfaction in any of past jobs. Abby appears to be a wanderer, not staying at any job for longer than 6 months, she finds that work becomes boring and no challenging enough. While Abby is on her quest to find a job that will test her skills, and hold her attention to longer than a 6 month period of time, Daniel the CEO of his late fathers company is in need of a new higher.

Daniel. While Daniel is made out to be this playboy billionaire who doesn’t care about females, it turns out (surprise, surprise) that he is actually very loving and caring. Daniel has set out to prove himself to Abby that he isn’t what the tabloids paint him to be.

The storyline itself was captivating, I did enjoy where the story was going and then of course, a cliffhanger. Not that the cliffhanger itself was that much of a shock, but where the cliffhanger took place was very blah. I found the story to be very repetitive, we know Abby has a history what that history is, we don’t find out in this first book of three. We also know that Abby has believed every word from the tabloids although she says she doesn’t, she immediately judges Daniel on what others have had to say. There were many eyeroll moments for me while Abby continued the battle of being an adult and handling the situation or letting others make her decisions for her.

I’ve realized that I want to see wh ed re this relationship takes Daniel and Abby, hopefully the two of them can become a power couple and run the business together.

Let me know how you feel about the thought of judging someone based on what the internet says. Do you judge other based on the tabloids, or are you more of a judge of character?

Well until next time, be sure to Read THS.

Review:

Celeste and Reagan, an odd couple to say the least. Reagan is our Fae and Celeste is our human, well sort of human but not really. Celeste is a dragon human hybrid shifter, a mouthful I know, although she isn’t aware of her abilities. Celeste has recently graduated college when she is bombarded by this handsome fae, that just so happens to kidnap her, yikes!

Reagan, one of the Scorched Elites, a sort of seal 6 team for the fae, is given a prophecy to locate a human dragon hybrid and bring her to the king. Sounds like a simple in and out task for the top-notched Scorched Elite, right…wrong! Reagan shows up to collect the human at hand when nature itself plays a cruel joke on the assassin and he is shown his fated mate.

This storyline is an instant love story, with all the fated mates’ talk, I only wish there were a little more passion. Everything kind of fell flat for me, but I honestly think its a personal issue. The story had no major structural problems and the grammar was fine.

One other let down for me was the ending, I was hoping for a different turnout, but what I got was a blah sort of let down feeling.

Let me know what you think about this one, I have decided to continue the series so I will let you all know how I feel about the next book.

Review:

After completing the first book of this duology, I wanted to see how the story would end. Similar to His Mate and His Mistress, the grammar issues continued throughout. The grammar being nothing but irritating background noise is not the reason behind the two-star score.

Adelina and Demitrey’s relationship is brought to an end, and I was not thrilled. Although the author tries their best to explain the reasoning behind Demitrey treating his one and only mate the way he had, due to his upbringing, that did not excuse the physical and mental abuse Adelina had to endure. If anything, I was hoping that the outcome would have been a little different, maybe with Adelina saying no and choosing herself over him or perhaps giving the relationship much more time. Although I have no experience in this type of incident, I don’t understand how Adelina could forgive Demitrey for all that he did, granted she did have her own inner battles.

The storyline in this book itself kept me confused, and at times the actions were very eye-roll worthy. There were so many twists and turns, and at every corner, the twists came from there was always one person responsible for the other characters’ reactions, Adelina. After some time, it became very repetitive that every bad guy was after Adelina, looking to kill her because she was who she was, or they wanted to keep her for themselves.

Due to so many unanswered questions in book one, I had to continue the story. I admit that I did get the answers, but the ending left an okay taste in my mouth.

I did initially find this book on the Dreame reading app, and after research, I saw the book was initially on Wattpad. I will say that I am glad the author was able to bring their work to life and offer it up to the reading community, I just wish the author would take another look at the duology and make the necessary adjustments.

So, what do you think? Would you give this story a shot, or does the idea of Demitrey and Adelina’s relationship seem like too much? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, be sure to Read THS!

2020 Bookish Goals

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you’ve all had a fantastic closing of 2019, and excited about the start of a new year and decade. When I look back on my previous 2019 goals, I realize I honestly did not give 2019 my all aside from accomplishing my reading goal of 100 books. This year, I want to push myself to stay on top of my blogs, something I really love, pushing out more content so that I may share all of the stories I’ve read and hope to read. So here’s to a new year and a start at something even more magnificent!

Bookish 2020 goals;

  • Read 125 books
  • Read 5 physical books
  • Read 1 History Book
  • Read 1 Business Book
  • Read 5 Mystery/Thrillers
  • Complete series previously started
  • Post book reviews every Tuesday and Thursday
  • Complete all books in my reading tab on Goodreads
  • Write reviews on books already completed and post reviews of books completed in 2020.

Wow, now that is a lot that I am trying to keep up with. Luckily I have a planner that I hope will help me in keeping everything straight. One thing I did not mention was that I am really pushing to be more productive by not procrastinating.
