Weekly Wrap-up

Hey readers,

Sorry about not posting my weekly wrap-up for the past two weeks. I do like the idea of posting this information, but I always tend to forget to do so on Sundays. Without further ado, I present my weekly wrap-ups from January 14 – 20, and January 21 – 27. I have a tendency to read books based on their cover, and their titles, do any of these books capture your attention just by looking at the covers, or am I alone on this?

Currently Reading, as of  January 28, 2019;

Now Gabriel and Kerina must survive the perils of the cursed seas and challenge the demonic Tua and his seven monstrous children for control of the Legacy Stone—a difficult enough task for a lone siren warrior and a powerful mage…

Except, Kerina’s not really a mage. The real mage died weeks before and hadn’t even been cold in her grave when Gabriel arrived desperate for her help. Kerina hadn’t exactly been eager to correct his mistake then, and now her lie of omission could leave the world in danger of complete extinction.

Kerina’s not sure how long she can keep up the ruse, and she’s running out of time to confess.

Review:

Lukas, a tormented fallen angel who has done nothing wrong is stuck on earth. While on earth three years of being cast out of heaven, Lukas happens upon Annelie, the owner of a local bar, and during his time on earth the two become better acquainted, as far as owner and patron can be, the two still find themselves longing for one another.

When Lukas goes missing for some time Annelie finds herself worrying about the handsome blond until he one day walks into the bar from that day on things are forever changed. Lukas comes back a changed man, drinking liquor which is not normal for him. Annelie watches over Lukas carefully, knowing that he is acting out of character, and soon cuts him and doesn’t allow him to just wander out into the world drunk. Annelie offers to take him home so that she can be sure he arrives safely before she can leave him for the night their built-up passion takes over them. As a kiss leads to much, much more, more than the two of them could have imagined, Lukas control slips and out comes the one thing he’s been hiding this whole time, his wings.

Now, I don’t want to spoil all the fun of reading the book by giving everything away, but I will admit that the push and pull of these two main characters kept me bouncing back from one to the other. Lukas had his reasoning as to why he couldn’t openly do as he pleased, and with that Annelie thought that he might just be crazy, but the need for her to figure it out for herself kept me hooked.

I enjoyed reading about Lukas background and the viewpoint of his situation. His thoughts were of an angels duty, but his physical reaction could only be handled on the human level, and constantly brought forth the itch to be back in his position in heaven to try and clear his name. Lukas came off as more of a human than an angel to me, and I think I liked that a little more from him, seeing as he has had issues back home. Lukas is by far my favorite angel of the series, can’t wait to see what struggles and angels the next book brings.

Did you find Lukas as attractive and caring as I did, if so let me know in the comments below, does Annelie sound like your kind of girl, or did she take a leap of faith and just watch things play out? I can honestly say that I love these two together, their story flowed and their actions and reactions seemed to be similar to a normal relationship and not super fantasy like this is another win for Felicity Heaton. Well, until next time readers, be sure to Read THS!

As I uncover a web of lies and treachery, revealing an enemy I didn’t know existed, the truth of my identity is threatened. I might make it out alive, only to end up in a gilded cage.

Review

Reagan, a badass heroine who is working hard to take down her next target, so that she can stay afloat. With her line of work, when someone has a job for you, as a fellow bounty hunter, you can’t afford to say no. During this task, Reagan is forced to work side by side with a vampire, Darius, and old, cocky, and extremely attractive vampire, one who can’t be trusted. Reagan’s wit and dry sense of humor kept me glued to the book, her personality is the way my mind functions and I loved every minute of it.

Darius on the other hand, I was irritated by at the beginning that is. I’ve noticed that almost all of the vampires when working with non-vampires tend to look down on everyone, and that’s exactly what Darius portrayed from the jump. As the two spend more and more time together, we begin to see some form a friendship evolving between the two, and thus my heart began rooting for the duo to follow their feelings.

I loved this book, and couldn’t wait to start the next book in the series. Stay tuned for the review, Raised in Fire by K.F. Breene coming soon. Until next time be sure to Read THS!

Summary

Over the centuries, anything Ronan once found pleasure in has faded away to be replaced with blood, death, and the ever-constant battle not to give in to the more savage side of his vampire nature. Every time he wakes, he questions if that day will be the one he succumbs to the beckoning darkness.

As a born hunter, Kadence has been sheltered from the world for her entire life, never allowed to step beyond the walls of her home. It’s not a life she’s happy with, but it’s one she’s come to accept. Everything changes the day her father is slaughtered by a vampire and she escapes the walls that have kept her caged.

After she’s attacked by the monster responsible for killing her father, Kadence is unsure how to react when she’s rescued by Ronan. Though raised to hate vampires, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Ronan as she slowly begins to realize that everything she’s been taught over the years may not be true. Now, she must decide what she wants more; Ronan, her family, or the elusive freedom she’s finally found.

Review

Kadence, a born into the vampire hunter family, she has been raised within her compound and never really ventures out into the world. As the daughter of those in charge int heir compound, Kadence is looked at as the princes of sorts. Kadence has schooling on how to be a proper lady and how to take care of her household while the men work and fight to protect the women and children. Now I am all for chivalry not being dead, but not everyone is meant to be the perfect housewife and ask little questions. Kadence was a forward thinker and was always searching for something to fill the void within her, and so she snuck out and thus the story really begins.

Ronan, a vampire, a sultry sex vampire I might add is out with his team of fellow vampires out on the hunt as well. Because Ronan lives forever he has watched many people that he has come to care for pass as he continues on with his life. But things suddenly begin to change when Kadence enters the club doors and catches his eyes.

Little do the vampire hunters, and vampires know, but they are both working towards the same goals, to take out as many rogue vampires as possible. When all hell breaks loose outside of the club, the vampires and the vampire hunters find themselves working alongside one another to fight off the some of the rogue vampires that have stumbled into their space. From that moment on Ronan and Kadence will find that their actions will have effects on their families, and the positions they will be forced into will have them questioning themselves.

I loved this book! I felt so many emotions from heartwarming flutters to irritation and frustration. I loved the story as it developed, the characters developing into those that I loved and hated as well as wanted to kill myself, I enjoyed everything and can’t wait to bring you guys the review for the next book in the series.

Review

A hot little number between two people that just needed a break. Alaska, the daughter of a mafia crime boss, is away at school where she is trying to live a normal life like any other college student. While away at school Alaska attempts to pursue the hot RA that’s supposed to have a leadership role at the school, but she soon finds out that he knows exactly who she is, which means she is being watched while she’s away.

To escape yet another one of her fathers controlling ploys, Alaska enters into a campus contest and wins a trip to an exclusive island and wins. Just in the nick of time, Alaska is whisked off to an amazing island where she can finally let go and be free, which is exactly what she does.

While on the island, Alaska senses someone familiar around, noticing his face in crowds and such, until one night she takes the chance to and plunges into the wonders of the island, where she is able to escape with her fathers’ bodyguard.

This was a short read, hot and steamy from the beginning and a good page-turner. I would recommend this read for a time when you’re stuck on where to go next.

Review

This Rogue Prince is related to the main character in Kissed by a Dark Prince. Both Loren and Vail are brothers, elf brothers that are royalty of their Elf kingdom. After the death of their parents and the great war that brought destruction to their land, the brothers set out to protect their people. During this time Vail met what he thought was the answer to a long foretold prophecy of a witch, who was told to be his salvation but turned out to be his worse nightmare.

Vail is then taken under the witches control, where she forces him to fight his only living sibling, Loren for centuries. Although the brothers grew up together and learned together, their fighting styles were always different. Vail, was still a stronger fighter than Loren and could have easily bested him when the witch would pin the brothers against one another, and yet Vail was always able to leave and break free before doing so.

This brings us up-to-date on Vail’s story. Captured after the war, the Fifth King has both Vail and Rosalind in holding cells where she is forced to help the one creatures that she has been told will be her downfall. While Rosalind is tending to Vail, she begins to peer into who he is and sees that he isn’t as terrifying as he appears to be but scarred.

During their journey, they each allow the other to see something they didn’t show to anyone else, and feelings begin to bloom. I think I liked the book mainly because it wasn’t an instant attraction, both Vail and Rosalind had their withdrawals towards one another, but as they got to know each other and the time they spent around one another, they began their quest to their true fated ones.

Is this a book you would like to pick-up, let me know if this intrigues you in the comments below. Until next time, be sure to Read THS!

Summary

They came to earth-Pestilence, War, Famine, Death-four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her, and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

Review

Pestilence, a fatal epidemic disease, especially bubonic plague.  -Google

We first start off the book with Sara and her fellow volunteers that have set out to help save their little town. In doing so, Sara is chosen to stay behind and face Pestilence trying her best to end him and his deadly path from making it any further across the world. Sara’s first attempts all failed, and she is taken captive and forced to watch the world die around her as Pestilence continues to run around the globe.

Pestilence, the definition provided is exactly what this character embodies. He has his mission, the only he knows is to bring on death as he rides across oceans. We are able to hear about his life and some information about his brothers, the other horsemen that have yet to come.

I have to say that I loved Pestilence’s characters. Pestilence is not human, so when we get to look at him and see that he does have human-like emotions, it pulls at your heartstrings. I know that some people might see Pestilence’s actions as abuse and that is true. The way that he handles Sara is abusive, and that’s not okay. But, yes I know there’s a but, when you have a being that knows not of human life and was only built and or designed to bring on death to all, what do you expect from the character. The reason why I loved the book so much is that you get to see Pestilence become more human as the story continues. Sara may have a bit of Stockholm Syndrome, she does fall for her capture, but she is also the one who is slowly changing his mindset and actions into human-like characteristics. The atmosphere of this world is very dark, but how many rainbows and unicorns could you expect when reading a book named Pestilence without there being death surrounding him?

What are your thoughts of Pestilence? Would you pick it up and give it a try, or is the thought of constant death, and actions abuse something you can’t overlook? I would really like to know your thoughts on these types of books, is there no way one can redeem themselves, let me know in the comments. Until next time, be sure to Read THS!

Damien’s drive in life has been the safety of his family, but that was before he met Felicity. He can’t stop thinking about the beautiful witch who makes the killer coffee. Is the fire he feels for Felicity enough to trump his hatred of the Valdez name?

Love is supposed to conquer all, but can it overcome their history?

~Amazon~

Review

Short story, kind straight to the point. I enjoyed the book while I was reading it, I did feel the instant attraction between Felicity and Damien. Damien appeared to be all dark and brooding while Felicity is trying to live her life the best she knows how and on her own. Although I did like the two main characters, there wasn’t much depth to them, the characters seemed a lacking not just in their personal lives that they were attempting to live, but also in their pasts. Both of their families are apart of the fantasy world, but we only get glimpses into those worlds, enough information to make sure the reader understood what was going on and why.

Another reason for the 3.5 rating was the sex scenes. With the book only being 188 pages or so long, I felt like there was a lot of sexual scenes and thoughts that were kind of thrown in. I am not one to turn down a hot book, but for me, it almost seemed a little forced.

There are four books in this series, I’m glad this book didn’t end in a cliffhanger. I am not sure I would’ve been eager to pick up the next in the series. I might try to read the next book sometime in the future, maybe I’ll have a different outlook on the overall story.

Review

Anaea, a young lady that has been put to the test both mentally, emotionally and physically. Her body is giving out on her, she was diagnosed with cancer and it has reached its most severe stage, her husband has chosen to leave for another woman, and she has lost her job. During Anaea’s last moments of her life as she knew it, she stands on a bridge contemplating the plunge beneath her or the years, months, weeks or days she may have left to live with her body breaking down before her own eyes. It is during this moment that she is interrupted by a stranger, a stranger who appears to be trying to help her. All the while there is someone after this stranger, and before the attacker is able to finish off the stranger, he grabs hold of Anaea and they plunge down into the icy waters below. During that fall the stranger, known as Hunter transfers from his body to hers.

Hunter seemed like a nice guy stopping to help someone who appeared to be in trouble, but we soon find out that he is anything but a simple nice guy. Hunter has used his dragon powers to transfer his spirit into Anaea’s body to rid himself of the damaged body he was in.

From that moment on, their lives are being lived within the same body. Both of them trying to control the body they are residing in while Hunter is trying to get back to his people the safest way possible, while Anaea is trying to grasp what is happening to her, and who it is that has taken up board and room inside of her mind.

This book was a refreshing take on dragons. I loved reading the struggle between the two characters as they tried to survive one another. The old-time feel when the author thrusts us into a different time period, kept everything so fresh with every detail. C.I. Black hand me wishing for things to work out even when the two shared the same body, I am looking forward to reading more by Black.

Now, four weeks before graduating from Sarah Wharton Women’s College, she’s been kicked out for having boys in her dormitory, and he’s the one who shows up to collect her. With her parents away in Europe, he brings her to his place, because leaving a young woman unchaperoned isn’t done in 1957.

Brad makes it clear she is not to emulate the wild behavior of his youth, and he starts things out with a long, bare-bottomed punishment. Soon, though, he discovers his stepsister is all grown up, and having her under his authority makes her a temptation too delicious to resist. Before long, he’s strayed way past what is acceptable, turning her into his little girl and bringing her to the peaks of pleasure during her numerous punishments. LuAnn brings out the dominant side of him, but with it comes the desire to take care of her and nurture the sweet innocence she’s been trying to cover up. He wants her for keeps, which means risking their parents’ disapproval and leaving his rebellious side behind forever.

Review

Let me first start with the fact that I love the period this story took place in was what drew me to start flipping pages. This is a first for me, reading something taking place in the ’50s that weren’t related to school research. I will admit I did like the classic hints that were present, the updos, the classic attire and the words used were spot on and added to the story.

Brad has to go to school and pick up his little stepsister that he hasn’t seen for years. When he first lays his eyes on her, he sees that she is not the same 13 year old when he’d last seen her. With these two in close proximate and no parents in sight, Brad takes it upon himself to discipline LuAnn the best he knows how. The creativeness of the writing and the hotness between LuAnn and Brad was what kept me genuinely interested and kept the pages turning. The heat that came from every page turn was extreme, and I will be reading more from this author.

WHORE, SLUT, AN EASY LAY… I’VE BEEN CALLED A LOT OF THINGS.

It turns me on most when a man says it while he’s taking me from behind.

People say there’s a reason I am the way I am.
And sure, some stuff happened to me.
Some messed up sh*t I’d never wish on anyone.
But I’ve been like this long before that night.

That’s not what this story’s about, though.
You think you know? You don’t know a thing.
Let’s start from the beginning, all about how I asked for it.

Review

This book, oh my! I will say I wasn’t too fond of the title when I first read it, but it was obscure enough to intrigue me and push me to read the first couple of pages. The title alone can make you not want to move forward, but I encourage you to pick this one up, Willow Winters did a fantastic job with the storytelling.

I will try to explain my love for this start of the series without spoiling it for you guys. The darkness sets you up to feel so much more, there’s love, lust, anger, involving almost all of human emotion between these two characters. It is such a beautiful thing to see two people that have been genuinely hurt and wronged come together to build one another up to be greater than before. Isn’t that what we all want in life? For someone to care enough about us and know about all of our screw ups, but still, love us for us.

Hopefully, that wasn’t much of a spoiler for you, just now that the title is not always what it seems.
