31 Day Writing Challenge by Cydney

Hey there TH*S readers!

Today marks the last day of the month, normally I don’t post on Thursdays but I wanted to give you all this info before I actually kicked off my first ever 31-day writing challenge, which will start July 2018. I wanted to do this with you guys and share my way of creativity, hoping that it would come in handy one day. I have looked at many Pinterest boards, Blog Pages, and google pictures of different writing prompts, but the result only give you lists to follow along with on a daily basis. I wanted to bring you guys 31 days of writing prompts that could help you when you’re stuck in a hard place in your stories, or if you are just starting to journal.

Rules:

  • Write at least 250 words, mainly the opening paragraph. Of course you can write more, but I like to keep things open and fresh for future references.
  • Add in an important detail, a favorite name, a favorite flower, something that you’ll always remember about that opening.
  • Starts July 1, 2108, ends July 31, 2018 but feel free to continue, take a break, or start over again at any time.
  • Take 5 minutes out of the day to let your imagination go wild. Five minutes may seem like the smallest amount of time in the world, but I have noticed that every little time gets me a step closer to finishing my story. And although I more than likely go over that five minute break time, I make sure to add something if only a couple of sentences because I am working towards my goal.
  • Share. Don’t be afraid to share where the prompt took you. I will try my best to attach my own blurb, so that you all see that I am participating alongside with you all.

I hope that you all will join me on this writing prompt challenge of mine. Plus, the way I see it, the more open ideas available the better off you’ll be when writing. If you ever need to pull from one of the prompts for ideas, a plot twist, or you want to take it and completely flip what you’ve already written and add it into your work, than you have a journal of ideas just waiting to be used. I will be re-posting, and reminding you guys about the challenge, so stay tuned.

Comicpalooza May 25-27, 2018 Experience

20180525_1301152471454092776627083.jpg

2018 Comicpalooza held in Houston Texas is where I normally spend my Memorial Day weekend, this was my 8th year attending the convention and I can not wait until next years. This year I met and spoke with different authors, actors, and costume designers all wanting to share just how much they love what they do and how they took the chance and went after their dreams.

img_11514643445259270446832.jpg

Orlando Jones and I. He was very pleasant to talk to, had tons of stories to share with us, and constantly had everyone laughing. His stories were out of this world, some of them I would have never in my wildest dreams thought up myself.

img_11528113359340326548059.jpg

Ross Marquand, my mom and I. Super laid back guy, we literally talked about random stuff and also mentioned what movies we’ve yet had time to see, mine being Infinity Wars (don’t start with me, I have my reasons.).

20180527_162953805984331320592512.jpg

Ruth Carter, the costume designer for Black Panther. We were able to sit in on her panel and boy was it awesome. Very eye opening to hear where she started and how hard she worked to get to where she is. I was able to get her autograph, and take pictures with her, can anyone saw black girl magic? Super inspiring to hear and see Ruth Carters history, and way of thought for the production of Black Panther, and to know that we can all acomplish the same things she has.

My Comicpalooza purchases, all products were signed by the authors, and all authors are new to me. I love trying out new authors and sharing them with all of my readers, hopefully there will be some reviews on these new guys soon.

Hundreds Review

Hundreds (Book 3 Dollar Series) by Pepper Witners

Genre: Dark Romantic Mystery

Published: May 2017

E-book, Pages: 300

Stars: 5/5

“I’m done hurting her. She’s been hurt enough. It’s time I set her free…”

Once upon a time, I wished to go home and forget.
Now, I’m strong and ready to fight.
Seduced and claimed, Elder no longer just demands my voice, he commands me to be a thief like him.
I refuse.
But he offers me things I shouldn’t want, favours I should run from.
In return for his protection, I’m ordered to steal enough pennies and dollars to buy back my freedom.
Only, we both aren’t prepared for how he changes me, evolves me.
It’s my turn to learn about him.
It’s his wish to teach me how to be normal.
Until something goes wrong.
And our life together comes to an end.
Third Book in the USA Today Bestselling Romance, Dollar Series ~Amazon~

Picking up where we last left off, Pim and Elders relationship that’s not really a relationship, but should be a relationship is as rocky as ever. The struggle between the two of them helps keep the readers intrigued.

*Blurb*
“Where were you?”
“Where were you!”
“Where. Were. You?!”
And all I could do was sit there with my body inside hers, cold and ruined.
Answerless.
Powerless.
Destoryed.
~Pepper Winters~

Pim, although not fully healed mentally or physically has shown growth. Dollars left us in a shaky place, we were all asking ourselves “Will Pim survive this, is this some sort of betrayal?” Throughout Hundreds Pim continues to show her growth, after such a traumatic and earth shattering ending to Dollars everything was surely set-up for a downward spiral. But, Pim shows just how much that last scene helped her grow and push forward with her life, not allowing her past to trap her any longer. As we’ve been shown time and time again Pim is a survivor, a fighter a survivor, stubborn, and strong. So strong that she finally realizes what she must do to save Elder. Pims strength is one for the books, the past 2 years of her life have been horrible, and yet during her healing process she tries to fix Elder. Phenomenal!

*Blurb*
“With fingers my fingers tight around the pen, I scrawled my old name, turned new name, turned known identity.
Yours forever, Tasmin.”

Elder Prest, strong, helpful, loving and stubborn. Of all the things Prest has been through, Pim I believe is the most difficult task he has ever given himself. With his pre-existing condition he almost can’t afford to help although he feels it is his responsibility. And yet Elder forces himself to do what he can to help her heal, because we all know he is nothing but a teddy bear that needs love. Elders attraction to Pim is almost magical, because he can see through all of the broken parts of her and see just how strong she already is, and how much stronger she will be.

The love that is brewing between the two of them is a beautiful scene to watch, seeing and being able to read from both perspectives and knowing what they’re both thinking and they’re inner struggles just makes me fall in love with them over and over again.

First I’d like to say, Happy memorial Day and thank you to all that have served.

Happy Monday readers! I have recently started Temporary Bliss, by BJ Harvey

Goodreads rating: 3.81/5

Makenna Lewis cringes at any mention of the word commitment. She doesn’t want or need a relationship, but she does like sex (who doesn’t).

That explains Noah, Sean, and Zander, her three ‘friends with benefits’.

They know the score, they know they’re not the only one, and each of them provide her with a different physical need that she craves and enjoys.

Until a late night encounter with the delicious Daniel Winters turns her preconceived notion of no-commitment completely on its head.

Soon she finds herself feeling things she vowed never to feel again, and when Daniel pushes for more than she’s willing to give, she falters.

What do you do when something that you’ve known to be so wrong in the past feels so damn right?

If you’re Mac, you run and hide.

But is Daniel the type of man who takes no for an answer?

*Disclaimer – There is absolutely no cheating in this book. However, this book does contain descriptive and super hot sex scenes that will make you blush and leave you hot and bothered. Make sure you have your husband, partner, boyfriend or significant other nearby when reading, or else batteries. Lots and lots of batteries*                                                                            ~Goodreads Summary~

I started earlier on my lunch break, and I have to say the first chapter had me questioning the rest of the book. A lot of information was thrown at us within the first chapter of the main characters history and how she basically got to where she is now. But as I continued on to the next couple of chapters that all did change, I am now a little excited to see where this story can take me.

Until next time THS readers, remember to Read THS!

Dollars (Dollar Book 2) by Pepper Winter

Published: November 2016, Genre: Dark Romantic Suspense

E-book: 300 pages

Rating: 5 out of 5

Amazon                   Barnes & Noble                  Kobo

Book two in the Dollar Series continues with our story of Pim and Elder. A story that we might have all seen coming, but excited for non the less. I love these two as a couple, even though they aren’t technically a couple. Winters always figures out how to tug on every emotional string you may have. At moments  you’re feeling the pain Pim has gone through, and the need to be in control of her life and then with Elder you are feeling the loss of those you loved, as well as the need to conquer and fix Pim.

The way everything is written continues to pull you into the book, and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you try to sort through the two characters feelings. You want one another to forget all that they have gone through, but you also see how they need their pasts to help them grow into better people. I am so in love with these two that I can not stop myself from continuing their story, and watching them grow as people. They have both truly captured my heart, and I am excited to bring you the remaining reviews of the series.

Blurb

“There comes a point in life where determination supersedes circumstance. Where willpower wins over what should be done.

I’d lived in that point for two years.

…He made it worse. So, so much worse. But then he came back. He stole me. Just in time.” ~Pepper Winters~

If after that little spew you aren’t rushing to download the book, I have no clue what you’ve just read.

P.S. I started reading the series back in 2016, I have been on this journey with Winters for a long time, and I just now felt I was ready to write the reviews for you guys. I own the Kindle versions, as well as the Audiobooks version, and have read, re-read, listened, and re-listened to the entire series on countless occasions, and I fall in love every time. I am glad I have just now found the courage to tell you all about the wondrous tale of Pim and Elder.

New Read Mondays

Happy Mondays!

Hey gang, it’s our favorite day of the week once again…Mondays!

This weeks new read is right up my fantasy ally, with another dragon story. Lately I have been reading a tone of dragon stories, and I have to say I am loving it.

A New Level of Upset

I have been working on this story for a couple of weeks. The last time I opened it to work on it I added about a 500 words, although word count isn’t a big thing for me I was so proud of myself. Today I opened the story to add on to it, and I realized that some how, some way my work did not save from my last entry. I am so heart broken, I could truly cry right now. I thought I knew upset but this is a new level, all of the ides that I had at that random time are just gone, and to be honest I do not fully remember everything I added. I was tempted to close the document and just walk away, but as I write this to you guys my blood is starting to rush and I am getting excited about replacing what I lost as well as what I was wanting to add. I guess I should go ahead and head back over to Word and let my thoughts run wild.

DNF’d Books

DNF, may seem like a bad term to some readers, but haven’t you ever just had a book that you could not finish? Well I have plenty. I try not to make it a habit to dnf a book, once I begin one I truly try to finish it, but there are some books I just cant not push through. Here are my list of books that I have not finished since the beginning of the year, hopefully I’ll be able to finish them by the end of the year…but not likely.

Pennies Review

Pennies (Book #1 of the Dollar Series) by Pepper Winters

Published: July 2016 Genre: Romance/Mystery

E-book: 300 pages

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Amazon        Barnes & Noble       Kobo

Where do I begin? There are so many things I could say, but I refuse to spoil the book for you. Pepper Winters is known as the Queen of Darkness, every book I have read by her has taken me on a emotional roller coaster and still I continue to read.

Pennies is about a girl that is stolen, stolen from the life she knows and dragged to a world that is not at all pretty. She becomes a slave, a slave to a man that takes pleasure in doing the unthinkable. She suffers this ill fate for some time, at moments wishing things would just be over with, and yet she holds out until the day Elder Prest enters her life. Both Pim and Elder share similar qualities they are stubborn, strong, intelligent, and caring but the obstacle that keeps them apart are their issues. They are two broken souls with traumatizing pasts and a questioning future.

This first book is set-up perfectly, it is a show burner romance that is not at all romantic. While reading, the events that take place are so vivid that you believe you have lived through them yourself. The writing rakes you into the book where you can clearly see everything act out in front of your eyes. If you enjoy suspense, romance, action, and thrillers with a dark side I definitely recommend this read.
